As a self-taught artist, sculpting animals has been a pleasurable and challenging hobby of mine for over 30 years. The miniature animals you see in my gallery today are a result of attending a miniature dollhouse show in 1987. I was so inspired by some of the artisan displays and quality workmanship, that I was determined to try my hand at sculpting in 1:12 (one inch equals one foot) scale. At first, I found it difficult to create such tiny, delicate pieces with the high-fire clays I was accustomed to using in my previous sculpts. Not willing to give up, I began sculpting with polymer clays, which I found worked much better in producing miniature detail. In an effort to make my animals appear more life-like, I began experimenting with applying glue and fibers to my sculpts.
